Is Time Travel Possible?

Introduction

We have seen several sci-fi movies that shows time travel is really possible. We can travel in time just by a machine, which they call a time machine, but the reality is far different from sci-fi concepts used in movies. Let's explore some of the ways by which we can travel in future and past.

What Is Time?

First, let's understand what actually time is, Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in an apparently irreversible succession from the past, through the present, into the future.

Time always flows towards future and cannot be reversed. Some physicsts also believe that time is just an illusion, Time does not exist, but we are not sure about that.

There was a concept that, time is absolute that was given by Sir Issac Newton. Newton said that no matter what your speed is or no matter what is your place in space, the time you will experience will always be absolute. People used to believe this concept till May 1905,

until Albert Einstein stated in his special theory of relativity that time is not absolute. He said that time is relative and is affected by several condition. He said if a body travel faster than speed of light the body will travel in to the future and if a body is  near a heavy object where gravity is very high, then the time will slow down for the body. He proved his concepts by his Special Theory Of Relativity.

Now, let's know how can we travel back in time and how can we travel in the future!

How Can We Travel Into The Future?

As special theory of relativity states that If A Body Travel Faster Or At The Speed Of Light, It Will Travel Into The Future. If we are able to make those type of space vehicles which can travel at the speed of more than 300,000 km/s and withstand all the problems caused when we will travel at the speed of light ( you can learn about the problems caused when we travel at the speed of light from here in detail) then we will be able to travel in future and also there is a another way to travel to the future!

With The Effect Of Gravity

It is also proven that if a body is close to a supermassive object which has extremely high gravity and if the  body remains there for a long time then the time flow for the body will slow down.

So if you are traveling around a supermassive black hole then your time will be slowed down in compare with the time of the people on the earth so, technically you will travel into the future.

How Can We Travel Back In The Past?

It is technically impossible to travel back in time. We can't travel back in time by traveling very slow, like we travelled very fast when we had to reach in the future, sounds funny. But some of the theories claim that we can actually travel back in time with the help of wormholes. A wormholes are the space objects which joins two particular space with two different times. There might be a wormhole which would join 2021 with 1921 or 2021 with 1947 and all the possibilities you could have, so there is a way by which we can travel back in time but this wormhole stuff only exist in theories and never has been proven yet. Who knows in future, we could detect the first wormhole and in the next 10 decades we could travel back in time.
