Can We Travel Faster Than Light?

Can We Travel Faster Than Light?

Introduction

The speed of light is 299,792,458 m/s. The speed of light is kind of very close to the speed limit of the universe, which is exactly 300,000 km/s which is 300,000,000 m/s. So, traveling faster than light requires us special equipments and spacecraft to make it possible and also some of the weirdest ways of traveling in space. Let's discuss those ways and requirements below.

Travelling of light

How Can We Travel Faster Than Light?

For traveling faster than light we will need a spacecraft that can behold the situation created by the surrounding, when the space craft will reach at the Speed of light, but till date we are not able to create a spacecraft that can travel at the speed of light. Second we will need to provide infinite energy to the spacecraft to travel and to keep going of the space craft, but we don't have any source of infinite energy till date, except in the science fiction movies that shows us the existence of infinite energy known as tesseract. If tesseract was real, we could have a source of infinite energy. But the reality is not that. Till today's date from our existence we don't have a source of infinite energy. Every source of energy has a end. Even our primary source of energy the Sun 🌞, one day it will also end and mix in the cold space.

The Truth!

The truth is that, we can't travel faster than light even we can't come close to the speed of light. This is because some of the critical circumstances created by the surrounding when we try to approach the speed of light. Let us discuss those circumstances that are caused when we try to approach the speed of light.

Why Can't We Travel Faster Than Light!

Albert Einstein, one of the most famous and influential scientist ever lived on the planet stated in his special theory of relativity that, there is nothing in this universe that can travel faster than light and he was true yet we are not able to find something that travels faster than light in the universe. Yes, some theories leds to show the existence of particles that can travel even faster than light, but they haven't been proved yet.

Let's try to understand the things that will happen when we will try to approach the speed of light!

Only Bodies Those Are Massless Can Travel At The Speed Of Light

When the particles travel around the speed of light it has to go through a field known as higs field and the main point is that only Massless particles can go through this higs field with having a change and the change will be increase in mass. So, if a body which has it's specific mass approach to the higs field will see a massive increase in it's mass. And if the mass increases we will need a source of infinite energy to accelerate the object, which is impossible.

Hypothetical SpaceCraft

This Will Break The Casualty Principal!

When we will travel faster than light then the causality principal will be no longer valid for us. The principle is that every event in this universe has a cause and effect. First the cause happens and then we are able to see the effect caused. But this will be totally different when we will try to travel at the speed of light. The causality principle will get reversed, first we will see the effect and after that effect we will see the cause for the effect. It will be like we will first see the creation of planets and stars first and later on we will see the happening of the Big Bang. So this violates the law of phyics. So it is impossible for a body to travel at the speed of light

Length Contraction

One lf the causes that happens when we try to travel at the speed of light is the change in length in the direction in which the body is travelling. This phenomenon in physics in known as lenght Contraction. All this effects on the body makes impossible for a body to travel at the speed of light.

Mystery Of Light Speed

One of the constants of nature is the speed of light. It is also the maximum speed conceivable in the universe. There is nothing that can ever travel faster than light. But the speed of light is a deeper mystery than just the limit. It is easy to see that when you and your friend are both racing in your respective cars in the same direction, reaching say speeds of 80 and 90 km per hour, the difference of your speeds is 10 km per hour. If you now travel in the opposite direction to each other, the total speed between you is 80+90=170 km per hour. So, comparing speeds and finding the total speed is easy. You take the difference of both the speeds (if both are travelling in the same direction), and add them (if you are travelling in opposite directions).

Conclusion

All this effects caused by the surrounding makes impossible for a body to travel at the speed of light. Maybe in the next 10 decades we would be able to make spacecraft that could endure all these effect and finally make us travel at the speed of light.
